The Vision of the Regina Whittlers and Woodcarvers Club is to develop and maintain a fraternity of persons interested in all aspects of whittling and woodcarving.

Regina Whittlers and Woodcarvers

General Meeting of November 12, 2015

Present: Linda Anderson, Wayne Cann, Bill Dearborn, Gerald Ford, Emile Gaudet, Dave Hornung, Mary Hornung, Herb Klassen, Ken Smith, and Alex Tivas.

Introductions – We went around the tables with each member renditions of what they had recently learned about working with wood, - carving, burning or wood turning.

Adoption of Sept 10th Minutes – Motion: That the minutes of September 10, 2015 be approved. (Ken Smith/Emile Gaudet) Carried.

Correspondence - On behalf of the club, Linda Anderson nominated Alex Tivas to the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism for a Celebrating Seniors volunteer award in the Arts and Entertainment category. Unfortuneately, Alex came in second to a Fiddler from Assiniboia!

 Information/questions/concerns from or for:

At the moment the club has 55 members (largest ever!) and  $6000 balance which will leave about a minus $150 for the year.

  • The Comfort Bird Bee was a great success. Gerald Ford said that he has turned over 525 birds to the Hospital for use for Chemo patients and mental illness patients.

  • 13 people took part in the Chris Hammack Caricature Carving class.

  • Doris Sheldon's Class has 10 paid and 4 on the interested list for perhaps a second class. (Jan 2016)

  • In 2015 22 beginners took Bill Dearborn's class. Also 11 beginners took Bob Dawson's class.

  • Sometime in 2016 our club will be hosting a Share Shop. This is a good chance to meet other carvers from around the province. This is just for a Saturday only.

  • Tory Neald will be looking into having Tom Parks come to do a class on carving a Killer Whale and (perhaps) its baby! This class will be good for new carvers and should be at a very reasonable cost.

We must THANK Tory for the use of his shop for our many carving activities.

Bill Dearborn said that he had just survived Windows 10. Bill’s  notes on building our new website can be seen at A big KUDO to Bill for all his efforts.

Samir could not make it to the meeting.

Wayne had no comment!!!

Everyone is invited to the annual Christmas Gathering on Dec 10th, 2015. Please bring your wives, husbands, significant others. There will be a Display Table for those wanting to show off their recent accomplishments. There will also be an Exchange Table - bring a project that you created and it will be exchanged for someone else's project. The meeting approved the expenditure of $250 for Herb and Nadine to use for food, treats and refreshments.

Linda will be bringing some of the club vests to sell to anyone wanting one.

  Other business

  • In regards to Dave Hornung's "Meet a Member" page his corrected e-mail address is ""

  • Wayne Cann brought some examples of the new poems that could go with Comfort Birds. Wayne gave a BIG thank you to Samir for all his assistance.

  • Linda has contacted the Wood Turners re the Spring Show. They are heading up the 2016 Show. Linda is waiting for their reply.

There was a Show and Tell after the Meeting. Thanks to Emile Gaudet, Tory Neald and Bill Dearborn.

 Secretary Wayne Cann
