Regina Whittlers and Woodcarvers

General Meeting of September 8, 2016

Present: Linda Anderson, Wayne Cann, Bill Dearborn, Bob Demencuik, Emile Gaudet, Herb Klassen, Ted McPherson.

Introductions – Welcome to the First Meeting of the Fall Season.

We went around the room with each member giving a short introduction and an answer to the question - "Tell us about one creative activity that you enjoyed this summer - whether or not it has to do with woodcarving." Members talked about wood burning, painting, soap carving, woodcarving and even gardening.

May 12, 2016 Minutes – Motion: That the minutes of May 12, 2016 be approved. (Herb Klassen / Emile Gaudet) - Carried.

Queen City Ex – This year was another success. We had about 15 people sign up for classes in woodcarving. Next year should be better with less construction, etc., which will hopefully make parking better. Everyone who worked at the QCX remarked at what a terrific job Mary Hornung did with the visitors to our site. GOOD JOB MARY...

Information/questions/concerns from or for:

Treasurer – Herb reported that at the end of July, 2016 we have a balance of       $6090.00. The club has about a $1000.00 loss for the year due to Doris Sheldon's expenses coming out this year while the revenues were reported last year.

There will be a SHARESHOP held at the Seniors Complex next to the Neil Balkwill Centre on September 17 and 18, 2016. The club would especially thank Bob Dawson for making the Cutouts for this Shareshop.

There will be a "Carving a Chickadee with Power" offered by Emile Gaudet. This class will be held three weekends in a row from Friday (7 to 9), Saturday (9 to 5), and Sunday (9 to 5). The dates are the weekend of Oct 21, Oct 28, and Nov 4. There will be an additional cost of approx. $25.00 for the blank, feet, and eyes. The class will be held at Tory's shop. Please collect pictures of Chickadees and think about a mount for your bird: also, some  woodburning will be done. If you do not have power equipment don't let that stop you. Herb will be sending out more information very soon.

Herb is open to ideas for the Oct 13th meeting. What would you like to        see or do that night.

Website – The website is very up-to-date and looks very good. The writer has      noticed updates to the site almost immediately from their happenings.

Newsletter – Our newsletter looks so good and we all thank Samir for his hard work.

Secretary – Wayne thanked Linda, Bill and Herb for their proof-reading the minutes before publishing.

President – Linda indicated that she had talked with Peter Dielschneider about becomming president in 2017.

Motion: That Peter Dielschneider be declared Vice-president of the Regina Whittlers and Woodcarvers. Emile Gaudet / Wayne Cann - Carried. Congratulations and thank you Peter from all the members present at this meeting.

Other Business

Emile Gaudet is working on getting a grant for the club to use for to acquire more carving equipment or bringing in Instructors for Carving Classes.

Bill Dearborn advised Emile to check very carefully about how any grant that might be obtained for RWW could be used.

Motion: That Andre Beaudoin be authorized to purchase bandsaw blades as needed for the cutouts for our carving nights. (Bob Demencuik / Bill Dearborn) -Carried.

There was a Show and Tell after the Meeting. Thanks to Emile Gaudet and Bill Dearborn.
